I’m absolutely loving seeing all your side 1’s! They’ve been beautiful and I’m excited to see all the different colorways worked up.
If you don’t know about the crochet along yet, check out my introductory post here.
If you liked part 1, great! Part 2 is almost exactly the same thing, except we’ll be make TWO triangles and joining them as we go. I know that’s twice as much work as last week but, I also know this pattern gets addictive and can fly by. Also, the next two triangles use the exact same instructions and had I separated them I wouldn’t have anything to post that week!
If you don’t have the time to commit to that much crocheting this week, don’t worry! No one is timing you and it’s not a race. Go at your own pace. The important thing is that you’re enjoying the process. And, next week we’ll be back to making just one triangle.
This week can get a little tricky with the join we’ll be doing. It’s something that I made up just for this pattern. So if you need some help past the written instructions you’ve got two options.
- Watch the video tutorial below.
- Buy the PDF pattern which has step-by-step photo tutorials for the join.
The video tutorial is totally free on YouTube (but you can just scroll down to see it here in this post). The PDF is just a few bucks on Ravelry and Etsy and is a huge help to me to keep my business running and more patterns and crochet alongs headed your way. Plus it’s a beautiful addition to your pattern collection.

Pattern – Side 2
Tip: Maximize the impact of your self-striping yarn by advancing to the next color before starting side 2. Save scraps in case you need them to even out colors in the border.
IMPORTANT:
You’ll be working side 2 at a 90 degree angle to side 1 and joining as you make rows. Begin with side 1 right side up in front of you.
The join will happen in every other stitch of the last row of side 1. These will be the tr on the end, and every dc that falls before or after a fpedc.
Row 1
Slst into the tr at the end of the final row of side 1, ch2, sk next st of side 1, slst into next st of side 1 {counts as first joined dc}. (Dc, tr) into same tr as first slst. Turn.
Row 2
Ch4, 2dc in first st, dc in next st, join-dc in last st {see special stitches}. Do NOT turn yet.
Row 3
Ch2, sk next st of side 1, slst into next st of side 1, turn. Dc in each of next 2 sts, fpedc around next st, (2dc, tr) in last st. Turn.
Row 4
Ch4, 2dc in first st, dc in each of next 2 sts, bpedc around next fpedc, dc in each of next 2 sts, join-dc in last st. Do NOT turn yet.
Row 5
Ch2, sk next st of side 1, slst into next st of side 1, turn. Dc in each of next 2 sts, fpedc around next bpedc, dc in each of next 3 sts, fpedc around next st, (2dc, tr) in last st. Turn.
Row 6
Ch4, 2dc in first st, dc in each of next 2 sts, [bpedc around next fpedc, dc in each of next 3 sts] repeat across, but for last dc of final repeat make a join-dc in last st. Do NOT turn yet.
Row 7
Ch2, sk next st of side 1, slst into next st of side 1, turn. Dc in each of next 2 sts, [fpedc around next bpedc, dc in each of next 3 sts] repeat across until just 2 sts remain unworked, fpedc around next st, (2dc, tr) in last st. Turn.
Repeats
Repeat rows 6 & 7 until you have a total of 49 rows (or the same number of rows as side 1 if yours is different) and you reach the end of side 1. You will have the exact same number of rows as side 1. Fasten off.
Pattern – Side 3
Repeat instructions for side 2 joining to the final row of side 2.
Ok, get to it! You’ve got a lot of crocheting to do! 😉
I hope you enjoy this part just as much as part 1. It does look a little weird to have a blanket so decidedly not square, but we’ll get there next week.
Have fun!
